Oakland Soccer Club Unveils New Logo - August 16, 2021
Oakland Soccer Club unveiled its new logo today, marking the rebirth of an institution that has served Oakland for nearly fifty years. The club was founded in 1974 as a recreational and parent volunteer organization, with the goal of providing Oakland youth the opportunity to play soccer in a safe, positive environment at the lowest possible cost. The club has emerged from the pandemic with a new structure, new services, and a new culture focused on achieving the highest levels of player development, lifelong learning, and building community.
To celebrate the club has created a bold, black-on-white logo featuring the acorn, a long-time symbol of Oakland and a universal icon representing rebirth and growth. The logo’s iconography was developed in collaboration with designer Mark Crosby. “The iconic acorn in our new logo pays homage to the Oakland tree symbol and tells the story of what the Oakland SC will achieve,” said club co-president Edward Stephen.
“As the acorn is planted and grows into a mighty oak, the Oakland SC plants the seeds of character and responsibility in the minds of our youth and grows them into strong and successful individuals and members of our community.”
“We wanted the logo to set Oakland SC apart by avoiding obligatory soccer-and-shield imagery,” Stephen said. “The single black color in the logo represents the urban streets of the Town and will complement and enhance our new colorful jerseys.”
The acorn graphic forms an “O” above the “S” & “C” insets, denoting “OSC” for the Oakland Soccer Club. The inclusion of the club’s founding date of 1974 honors the generations of volunteers and staff who have served the community.

“We want to easily identify Oakland SC and communicate our newly articulated vision of community engagement and player development over winning,” Stephen said. “We are creating something special and new in Oakland. We hope the community will be excited and embrace our new look and our redoubled commitment to our club and our city.”
The new Oakland SC logo is simple, authentic, and true to Oakland, a unique community we all love.
